My daughter recommended Getting Things Done: the art of stress-free productivity by David Allen last year.
Last week I heard John Dickerson on a podcast talk about organizing work say, "I think the biggest, most important thing I ever learned was reading David Allen’s Getting Things Done, and it was basically to have some structure for capturing ideas. So it seemed to me that the basic most important organizational thing is capturing and follow through because you need to have a place you can capture things. So when you have a thought, it doesn’t go away because A, you lose the thought, and then B, you over time accrue this feeling like, oh, my life is a sieve, and I’m just not on top of anything. If at least you have a set of tricks for capturing that diminishes that idea, and then you have to follow through, which is to say when you capture it, it can’t just like stay in a notebook. You actually have to do something with it. You don’t have to do it immediately necessarily."
